At the BSMA, one of our core aims is to tackle critical healthcare challenges facing the UK Somali community. Through targeted community initiatives, we work to improve health outcomes, raise awareness of key issues, and foster collaboration to address longstanding inequalities.

National Conference

National Academic Conference
Our inaugural National Academic Conference held on the 7th June 2024, brought together over 200 Somali doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to discuss the healthcare challenges facing the British Somali community.

The event featured expert talks, panel discussions and audience engagement fostering collaboration and sharing solutions to address health inequalities facing our community.

Our National Conference represents a unique platform for key stakeholders to discuss vital healthcare issues and marks a significant step forward in our collective efforts to create a healthier and more equitable future.

Community Workshops

Bespoke community programmes
The BSMA organises Community workshops across the UK to address key health issues within the Somali community.

These include mental health workshops to encourage dialogue and reduce stigma around mental illness, as well as other sessions on topics such as cardiovascular and women's health.

These initiatives are designed to empower individuals with knowledge and foster healthier lifestyles, contributing to long-term community well-being.
