We are BSMA: Abdulkadir Elmi, Outreach Officer

Abdulkadir Elmi (Final Year Med - UCL) iamabdulelmi
Position : Outreach Officer (Youth)
It has been an absolute pleasure to be a part of the BSMA committee this year and serve alongside doctors that have been my inspirations throughout medical school. I love what the organisation stands for and how remarkable their growth has been over the past couple years.
For me the achievements of an organisation are the results of the combined effort of each individual. And I personally believe the British Somali Medical Association has the perfect balance. You have doctors helping guide current medical students. And students inspiring the next generation of medical students. Unity like no other!
You can see the direct impact of the organisation by the increased number of somali medical students attending university and the increased number of Somali Doctors ready to take on the challenge that is our National Health Service.
My main objective during my term on the committee is to increase the number of initiatives aimed at prospective medical students, with the ultimate aim of increasing their chances of success.
My message to sixth formers/secondary school students interested in medicine is to first work hard, get the highest grades you can, gain that firsthand healthcare exposure and smash those pre med exams!! Although your time at medical school will be difficult, it will most likely be one of the best periods of your life!
