The BSMA gives evidence to the House of Lords

On Monday 13 April 2026, Dr Sakaria Ali, Co-Founder and advisory board member of the British Somali Medical Association and a consultant paediatrician at University College London Hospital, gave oral evidence to the House of Lords Childhood Vaccinations Committee.
The committee is examining childhood vaccination rates in England. Dr Ali spoke on the session's second panel in Committee Room 3 of the Palace of Westminster, alongside Riyad Karim of NHS England's London region. BSMA colleagues Dr Abdifatah Mohamud and Dr Zakariye Ashkir attended in support.
Bringing the experience of Somali families, and of the clinicians who care for them, to Parliament is part of the BSMA's work for fair access to healthcare.
