Thank you to the European Somali Medical Conference

A huge thank you to the European Medical Somali Conference (EMSC) for bringing together Somali healthcare professionals from across Europe to connect, learn and have important conversations about the health culture within our diverse professional experiences. esmcouncil the_bsma

We were proud to be invited to contribute to that space through our trauma informed workshop and panel conversation - “Who Holds the Healers?”, delivered by two Qualified Somali Psychotherapists from the Somali Mental Health Network - Salma Mohamed salma_therapy and Najma Faysal, MSc, MBACP hayat.counselling

Together, we explored burnout, moral injury, compassion fatigue and the cultural realities that can shape how Somali healthcare professionals experience, understand and respond to their own wellbeing without leaving any part of us outside. The reality of the room will always sit with me, exploring real case studies and tools to help prevent these injuries. Holding space for those that hold it for others, is what we are all about. It was an honour welcoming everyone of you, and hearing similarities between all of our stories

For us, this is what the network is about: not one voice representing an entire community, but creating space for Somali mental health professionals themselves to bring their knowledge, clinical experience and perspectives into the rooms where these conversations are happening in order to shape social change together.

Join us for the exciting work we have yet to announce

Thank you once again to the team for having us. It was such a meaningful conference reflecting on the valuable lived experience and our legendary pioneers of the past handling over their hopes to the future generations to come
